Done with Wicked series

Finally, I've finished reading the Wicked series. Three bounded volumes but altogether five books, and I have to say while things do get intense in the plot, death, magic and all, the series are still a light reading for me.

My observation apart from the series being light reading:
1. I still get that feeling that the series is meant to be converted into a TV series, or written with that intend. It didn't go all crazy with the lovely prose or memorable phrases, more of telling the story as it happens, keeping the pace moderately fast throughout the three volumes.

2. I did not get to know any of the characters in depth. Holly was a leader, Nicole was the beauty, Amanda the girl next door. The rest of the characters sort of fade, with the exception of antagonist/protagonist Eli. So it was hard for me to root for any of them. That said, I like it that non of them were made too perfect or too predictable. They all make mistakes down the line so readers like me can relate to that.

3. The love story wasn't woven as tightly as the staple romance, so romance fans this series may not be for you. I don't understand how Holly and Jer could've fallen in love so fast, when most of the time when they both meet they'd be possessed by their ancestors Isabeau and Jean. Amanda and Tommy as well as Nicole and Eli's were much better told, but again I had hope there had been more. Not that I'm a hardcore romance fan, but love being the strongest magic of all, should've been made as part of essential ingredient in this kind of stories, IMHO!

4. I had also hoped the "familiars" were given stronger roles, and I wish the birds were also described further in detail and given more lines. (Sabrina's Salem is a good benchmark. #justsayin)

5. There were several mistakes found in Volume 2 Book 4, mostly towards the ending pages (as if the editor was going woozy going through the chapters) in which where Nicole was not with the Cahors but mentioned alongside at the introduction of a segment.

My conclusion after reading the books: Still very enjoyable, would recommend it to older teens who also enjoy TV series like Vampire Diaries etc.
